I am pleased to host the 17th Congress of the International Society for Experimental Microsurgery (ISEM2025). I would like to express my sincere gratitude for this wonderful opportunity.

The ISEM was established in 1992 by Professor Sun Lee, who introduced microsurgery to organ transplant research in the 1960s and laid a great foundation for organ transplantation (ISEM). It covers a wide range of medical fields from basic to clinical (transplant surgery, gastroenterology, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, otorhinolaryngology, etc.) and veterinary field as well. It has been 11 years since the last meeting in Japan was held in 2014 (Kyoto) by Professor Shinji Uemoto, Department of Hepatobiliary and Transplant Surgery, Kyoto University, and 31 years since in Kanazawa by Professor Teruho Kajimoto, Department of Pediatric Surgery, Kanazawa Medical School, in 1994.

The theme of ISEM2025 is "Future for Microsurgical Technology". Microsurgery is an essential technology for both basic research and clinical surgical practice, and the impact of its innovation on patient outcomes is invaluable. In recent years, new technologies have emerged, such as the use of virtual reality, exoscopes with high-resolution, robots, and the artificial intelligence. We have chosen this theme to discuss how young researchers and doctors can make the most of these technological innovations to contribute to patients in the new era.

We look forward to further innovation in microsurgery through the integration of basic and clinical sciences. We sincerely look forward to your participation.
